marcus: *reaches into box of paint-stuff* hey, what's this? *pulls out pack of paintbrushes; as he does so one falls out of the pack* oh.
marika: ARGH. you're like a baby. *sigh* put it back.
marcus: *puts brushes back* it wouldn't have been so bad if one hadn't fallen out, would it?
marika: =| INFANT.
marcus: *defensive* i--i thought it was candy!
marika: ...
marcus: *realizes what he has said* *facepalm*

at least he didn't put it in his mouth.

on another subject entirely, one that i have decided is ultimately more important or at least more interesting, my novelist, lpb-era, had developed a very DEFINITE opinion of who he was. after he'd been a fox tortured by shi, after he'd been a fox killed by a lover, after he'd been reborn into a human and twenty-odd years later lost everything again down to his MEMORY, he shattered, and developed an image of himself that neither you nor he was allowed to touch. to quote from lpb: And there were faces to his memories now. Or not, but features, red hair, bloody arms, leather jackets, cigarettes in bruised hands (and he thought he'd bruised the hands, thought maybe this person's hands were bruised because he'd slammed them in a door and said nonchalantly that it had been accident, but that didn't fit with the profile he'd had to make for himself; cigarette burns as code for kisses would never).

'cigarette burns as code for kisses would never': take notes, class, this line is vital )

so you see the issues with yuku ultimately deciding he was going to rip all of that apart and rebuild meki from the beginning if he had to.

Tweaks and enhancements

  1. In order to improve site security, we've temporarily suspended the ability to change passwords for old email addresses that haven't been used for over six months. For further information and support, please visit our customer care page.
  2. We've launched a new mobile site with an enhanced UI at m.livejournal.com. View spotlights, post to your journal, read and post to friends pages, and more, no matter where you roam! Please let us know what you think, since this will eventually replace our existing mobile interface. You can update your mobile preferences on your account page.
  3. We've upgraded from Beacon to Facebook Connect to improve dual posting. If you've already signed up for Facebook Beacon, you're good to go. If you wish to update your Facebook Connect setting, visit Account Privacy settings and scroll down to the option labeled: "Send information about my updates to Facebook." You can choose Always or Ask each time. Remember to save (on the bottom left corner of the page). To learn more, check out FAQ 249. While we're on the subject, if you happen to be visiting that side of town, please join our Facebook fan page for a touch of home away from home.
  4. You'll now receive the Writer's Block Question of the Day in the body of email notifications. To sign up for Writer's Block notifications, visit [info]writersblock and choose the Watch Community option. Next, update your Writer's Block notification settings by checking the box to the right of "Someone posts a new entry to writersblock."
  5. Paid and permanent users can now view, add, and edit Notes of commenters. Notes will appear beside the username of comment posters (instead of stars) on S1-themed comment pages.

Send some lovin' thanks to your friends with our holiday vgifts!

Photos of the week

We're so delighted with the immense talent of our growing, global [info]lj_photophile community that we've decided to introduce a poll. Each week, we'll choose a half-dozen photos (based on user comments and staff feedback) and ask you to select a photo of the week. The winning photo will be announced in the next newsletter. If possible, please limit photo size to 350x350 to ensure that images display properly on friends pages. We want to thank you again (and again!) for sharing your passion.

Check out this week's photo poll and more fantastic user content after the jump!

here is your fic rec of the day.

  • Nov. 20th, 2009 at 7:44 PM
not that you get a daily fic rec ever or anything.

recessional over at dreamwidth has converted me to a ridiculous THING of squeaky noises and flailing, which admittedly she usually does (you should probably go see inland_territory; there's more fic there, all of which is worth reading to the extent that i cannot precisely pick a particular rec from there, although i might be VERY inclined to glee over Behind Mirrors). first off, it's really fucking heart-eating, this particular fic is, and i'm not even sure you have to be remotely familiar with the 'verse to go EEEE at it. second, hi, first person perspective of a character whose perspective is pretty much unendingly fascinating, if not just beautiful.

third, well. well. *flail* look. look, it's really really well-written! LOOK AT THIS FUCKING FIC. HERE HAVE AN EXCERPT: O my hope-bird: you answer the question, what is next. An accident in the shape of the world after all my plans and shapings of accidents before.

...it is a very, very good fic. <3

Postcard winners!

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude for sending so much joy our way. Frank is still blushing with excitement over the love notes, proposals, propositions, and occasional intimate photos sent from his admirers around the world (China, Norway, Japan, and Poland just this week)! At his request, we blindfolded Justin, one of Frank's BFFs, spun him around in five dozen counterclockwise circles, and asked him to point to ten random postcards/envelopes pasted to the wall. After a brief trip to the bathroom, he chose the following lucky winners, to whom we will give a six-month paid account token (for paid, basic, and plus users) or, for our permanent account holders, a $15 voucher for the LiveJournal gift shop.

So, without further ado, the winners are:

  3. We've added new vgifts to celebrate Thanksgiving! Check out our feathered friend, below!

Give more with charitable vgifts

In honor of national adoption month, we're offering a charitable vgift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that provides healthcare and adoption to orphans suffering from life-threatening diseases. ...do you realize nothing has ever gone right for the death lord? *amused* not a DAMN thing. oh sure, he managed to kill a few gods here and there. sure, he killed off hundreds of millions of humans and demons alike, both before and after the creation of the wretched world, both before and after his own DEATH. he forced several races to evolve into monsters under his long-term, er, 'care', and he's got himself a FINE place in history books, and mothers won't even use him to threaten their children to go to sleep or eat their dinners because half those mothers lost at least ONE child or SOMEONE ELSE to him or his cult and know damn well he is not to be spoken of lightly. the underworld king, yes! tell a lie and he'll rip your tongue out, kid. shi, NO OH MY GOD WHY WOULD I THREATEN MY BABY WITH THAT *THING*.

but everything truly colossal he's attempted to do has backfired on him in some way. )

I MEAN GODDAMN. the man has NO LUCK. also, y'know, towards the end of his life he was pretty damn irrational and crazed anyway. still. FAIL, DEATH LORD. FAIL.

marcus: *wads up fist* okay, i've got the hole.
marika: *stops on way out* you'll give it back to me when i get back, won't you?
marcus: *STOMPS GROUND* no, no, i've STOMPED THE HOLE TO DEATH.
marika: *DISTRAUGHT* WHY YOU BE STOMPING MY HOLE?

UNRELATED: I THINK IT'S AN ERASURE KINDA NIGHT, WHAT SAY YOU FLIST?

It's that glorious time of year when we reunite with loved ones (we neglected all year), stuff our faces to excess, and pass out in front of the TV. Perhaps a recalibration of the thanksometer is in order. A spin-off of the popular GivesMeHope.com site, this community invites you to document moments of kindness, generosity, and pure human love.

Despite its mainstream appeal, Thanksgiving is not for everyone. There are those struggling with food disorders, for whom this day causes endless conflict. There are the cash-challenged, who can't afford the gluttony we've grown to expect. There are the lonely, who don't have loved ones nearby. And let's not forget the vegetarians, who decry the animal cruelty. But there's one more group we often overlook: the terminally lazy! This community of lazy vegetarians offers easy recipes for an animal-friendly feast.
