Title: Gable House (temporary title)

Note: Old stuff, still good, working on other stuff now. ^^

There were two wooden benches in the wooden gable house. The gable house was surrounded by trees but for its entrance and was situated by a red brick bike path.

Precisely at 3:33 P.M. everyday, a brown haired girl of about 17 years would stop at the gable house, ascend its steps, and sit on the bench to the left. She would wait everyday for one hour and eleven minutes and precisely at 4:44 P.M. everyday, a blue haired boy of about 17 years would also stop at the gable house, and sit on the bench to the right.

Together, not speaking, they would wait for one hour and eleven minutes.

And precisely at 5:55 P.M everyday, they would vanish.

More resources!

Just found an interesting site called Advocates for Youth.
Could bare some more looking into, but looks cool enough. ^^ It's got resources for other sites and pamphlets called "I'm (insert sexual orientation here). Now what do I do?" It's got resources for finding support groups and stuff as well. ^^

The site Genderzize I've looked through a bit and it's rather informative. It's got explanations for various things and as far as I can tell- legit.

Anybody else have internet resources?

My intuition was correct! :D
I'm watching C.R.A.Z.Y.- it's about how this boy grew up in a house where his father is very anti-homosexual. Now that the boy-Zac- is a teenager he's struggling even more with stuff. He supposedly has a gift and his family is very catholic. He's rejected both and is starting to subconsciously act out. It's a foreign movie, but for all that, very intriguing. ^^

Personal Experience:
I've not really been subject to any sort of hate crime. I mean, yeah, I was bullied in school, but none of it pertained to my sexual orientation.
I've always been the more quiet type around others, preferring to read and stay out of most people's ways. I kept my orientation under lock and key until this past year of college where I've actually started to tell select people.

I have received some negative messages from my parents about GLBTQ, though. I was raised in an LCMS Lutheran household. (Heck, my father was a pastor) But I managed to escape most of what they could tell me because- A. I'm the youngest and B. My parents were busy and I kept myself busy. Rules tend to be less strict when parents finally get around to raising the youngest.

Aside from that, I think my parents have begun to suspect something, mostly because of my change in haircut. I cut it very short, and for some stupid stereotypical reason it's become almost a family discussion on whether or not I'm a lesbian.
But the most negative message I got from my parents was a couple weeks ago. My sister was jokingly asking my mother 'what's the worse I could be', saying that my cutting my hair and dying it different colors really was nothing compared to other stuff.
But my mother took it seriously and answered, "A lesbian."

I'm not quite sure how HRC's plans to help GLBTQ would help me specifically... But I have dreams that if maybe they can get it into people's minds that GLBTQ people are no different from others (aside from the obvious) then maybe it will be easier for my parents to accept me.
I know that HRC is working on strengthening the appearance of GLBTQ in religion so that the stereotype of GLBTQ being religionless and somewhat amoral can subside.

I've known a few people who were GLBTQ. One of them I'm internet-courting/dating. One of them is a great friend that I correspond with regularly.
But the one I'll always regret is the one that I refused to sign a petition for in 9th grade. Because I didn't understand what was going on at the time... and I'd like to make up for it. I'd like to say that I will never let someone else's ideals dictate my own ever again. I've got my willpower now and let's see where it takes us, shall we?

HRC has helped me re-find my faith. I'm hoping they can re-find my parents for me and I'm hoping that I can make up for naive mistakes.
So, to pay them back, to keep my own hopes going, and to maybe make other people's hopes come true- that is the personal reason why I am blogging for HRC this year.

The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act / Matthew Shepard Act gives the Justice Department the power to investigate and prosecute bias-motivated violence by providing the department with jurisdiction over crimes of violence where the perpetrator has selected the victim because of the person's actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.

The LLEHCPA / Matthew Shepard Act provides the Justice Department with the ability to aid state and local jurisdictions either by lending assistance or, where local authorities are unwilling or unable, by taking the lead in investigations and prosecutions of violent crime resulting in death or serious bodily injury that were motivated by bias. The LLEHCPA also makes grants available to state and local communities to combat violent crimes committed by juveniles, train law enforcement officers or to assist in state and local investigations and prosecutions of bias-motivated crimes."

"According to 2004 FBI statistics, hate crimes based on sexual orientation constituted the third highest category reported and made up 15.5 percent of all reported hate crimes. Only race-based and religion-based prejudice crimes were more prevalent than hate crimes based on sexual orientation."

What does all this say?
The top 3 hate crimes in the US are ethnicity-based, religion-based, and sexual orientation-based.

The Matthew Shepard Act in conjunction with the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act will enable the Justice System and police to better investigate and prosecute violent crimes committed because of bias/prejudice.

The HRC is working to help pass this law.

This spontaneous riot of information brings unthought of sensory details to attention.

Color!

Blues. Pinks. Peach. Hints of purple and brilliant gold highlights revealed to me. So much variety in what was once a gray scale world.

Everything was so dull before! But now that I'm actually paying attention- it's like an entirely different world has opened up to me. As if I had been going around all my life with my eyes half-closed and my ears muffled by plugs. Stopped from hearing, from understanding, from communicating!

Such revelations that could never be conveyed by simple words.

This message to me that not all was as I thought. That not everything they said was truth!
